TERRITORY / HABITAT
Habitat System Guide
A complete player guide covering habitat types, capture mechanics, buff effects, territory defense, and practical tips.
Habitats are capturable territories on the map. Once captured, you and your team members will receive continuous growth buffs. This guide covers everything you need to know about habitat types, capture mechanics, buff effects, and defense strategies.
1. What Are Habitats
Habitats are special zones scattered across the map, marked by dashed circles on both the world map and minimap. When you enter a habitat zone, a capture status card appears at the top-center of your screen, showing the current capture progress and ownership status.
Once captured, you and your teammates inside the zone receive continuous growth buffs — including boosts to growth speed, egg development, health recovery, and tenacity. The habitat system is one of the core mechanics for gaining long-term advantages in the game.
2. Habitat Types & Compatibility
There are four habitat area types. Each type only allows creatures with specific habits to enter and participate in capture. Understanding the match between your creature's habit and habitat types is the first step to effectively using the habitat system.
| Habitat Type | Allowed Habits | Description |
|---|---|---|
| LAND | Land, Hydrophilic, Amphibians | The most common type, found in forests, plains, and valleys. Suitable for most land creatures. |
| WATER | Hydrophilic, Amphibians, Marine Reptiles | Found in rivers, lakes, and swamps. Suitable for semi-aquatic and marine reptile species. |
| SEA | Marine Reptiles, Aquatic | Located in the deep ocean. Exclusive capture zones for fish and marine reptiles. |
| ALL | All habits except Flying | The most versatile habitat type, commonly found at coastlines and river mouths. Flying creatures cannot capture. |
Creature Habit Reference
- Land (LAND): Standard land creatures. Can capture LAND and ALL habitats.
- Hydrophilic (HYDROPHILIC): Semi-aquatic creatures like crocodiles and Spinosaurus. Can capture LAND, WATER, and ALL habitats.
- Marine Reptiles (MARINEREPTILES): Such as Mosasaurus and Plesiosaurus. Can capture WATER, SEA, and ALL habitats.
- Aquatic (AQUATIC): Fish and other fully aquatic creatures. Can only capture SEA habitats.
- Amphibians (AMPHIBIANS): Such as frogs. Can capture LAND, WATER, and ALL habitats.
- Flying (SKY): Flying creatures cannot capture any habitat type.
3. How to Capture Habitats
Capturing a habitat requires no special action — simply walk into the zone and progress will accumulate automatically. Capture speed depends on how many teammates are inside the zone: more teammates means faster capture.
Capture Speed
- Solo capture: Approximately 120 seconds (2 minutes) to complete.
- Team capture: The more teammates present, the faster it goes. Minimum 30 seconds with a full team.
- AI offspring & mates: Do not contribute to capture speed and are not treated as enemy factions — they belong to your team.
- Wild AI creatures: Ecology AI does not participate in capture and will not interfere with progress.
Capture States
- Unoccupied: Progress bar is empty. The first player or team to enter begins accumulating progress.
- Capturing: Progress is accumulating, shown as a percentage on screen. No buffs are granted until capture is complete.
- Contested: Two or more different factions are present simultaneously. Progress is frozen — neither side gains or loses.
- Captured: Progress has reached 100%. The occupying team receives buffs while inside the zone.
4. Capture Buff Effects
Once capture is complete, all teammates inside the habitat zone immediately receive buffs. The buff level increases the longer the habitat has been held. Buffs disappear immediately upon leaving the zone and are automatically restored when you re-enter.
| Time Held | Buff Level | Effects |
|---|---|---|
| Just captured | Lv.1 | Growth +15%, Egg Dev +15%, HP Recovery +15%, Tenacity +1 |
| 10 minutes | Lv.2 | Growth +25%, Egg Dev +25%, HP Recovery +25%, Tenacity +1 |
| 20 minutes | Lv.3 | Growth +35%, Egg Dev +35%, HP Recovery +35%, Tenacity +1 |
Note: The buff level is based on how long the habitat has been held, not your personal time inside. Even if you just joined the team, you'll receive Lv.3 buffs as long as the habitat has been held for over 20 minutes.
5. Multi-Team Contests & Defense
Habitat ownership is not permanent — other players can challenge your control. Understanding the contest mechanics is essential for effectively defending your territory.
Contest Rules
- Progress freeze: When two or more different factions are present, capture progress is frozen. No side can gain or lose.
- Challenging capture: When an enemy team is alone in the zone, your capture progress is directly consumed by them. Once it reaches zero, ownership transfers immediately.
- Last one standing: When all members of one faction leave, the remaining faction continues to gain or consume progress.
Intruder Alerts
When a non-teammate enters a habitat your team owns, you will immediately receive a red banner warning at the top of the screen and a red system message in chat — "Your habitat is under attack!" The alert resets once all intruders leave, allowing you to be warned again next time.
6. Grace Period (15 Minutes)
After capturing a habitat, it won't be lost immediately if you and all teammates leave the zone. The system provides a 15-minute grace period, allowing you to hunt, gather resources, and return.
- Within 15 minutes: Progress is frozen and ownership is preserved. When you return, it's still your territory and buffs are automatically restored.
- After 15 minutes: Progress begins to decay (takes about 2 minutes to reach zero). Once at zero, the habitat becomes unoccupied.
- Protection voided: If another player enters and begins challenging during the grace period, protection is immediately voided and progress is consumed directly.
7. Brooding in Habitats (Bonus Benefits)
If you build a nest and brood inside a habitat your team owns (nest incubation or viviparous female sleeping), you gain additional bonuses beyond the standard capture buffs.
- Buff level +1: Your effective buff level increases by 1 while brooding (capped at Lv.3). For example, a just-captured Lv.1 habitat + brooding = effective Lv.2 (+25%).
- Extra egg strengthen: The egg's attribute strengthen cap is raised, allowing one additional random stat boost — your offspring gets stronger starting attributes.
- Egg cold resistance: Normal eggs risk being weakened below 1°C ambient temperature. Habitat-brooded eggs are protected down to -1°C — effectively +2°C cold resistance.
Tip: After capturing a habitat, prioritize building your nest and hatching offspring within its territory to give your next generation stronger starting attributes.
8. Map Indicators
Habitats are clearly marked on both the world map and minimap, making it easy to quickly assess the status of nearby habitats.
- White icon + dashed circle: Unoccupied habitat. Anyone can enter and capture.
- Green icon + dashed circle: Habitat owned by you or your team. Enjoy buffs while inside.
- Red icon + dashed circle: Enemy-owned habitat. You must reduce their progress to zero before you can capture.
- Yellow/red blinking: Habitat currently being contested by multiple factions.
9. Frequently Asked Questions
Can I capture a habitat without a team?
Yes. You'll be treated as a "one-person team" with the same capture speed as solo capture (about 2 minutes).
I captured a habitat with my team, then left the team. Who owns it?
The habitat belongs to the team, not individuals. You lose the buff immediately upon leaving, but the habitat remains with your former team until all members die or 15 minutes pass with no one defending it.
I captured a habitat solo, then joined a team. What happens?
The habitat automatically migrates to your new team — all teammates in range will receive buffs. Progress and level are preserved without reset.
I'm inside a habitat zone but the buff isn't active?
Check whether capture is complete (100% progress). Buffs are only granted after capture is complete, not during the capturing phase. Also verify you're on the same team as the occupier.
Can marine creatures capture land habitats?
No. Habitats have strict habit restrictions: marine reptiles and aquatic creatures can only capture WATER or SEA habitats; land creatures cannot enter water habitats. ALL-type habitats at coastlines are the exception — both land and water creatures can participate.
Can flying creatures capture habitats?
No. Flying creatures cannot capture any type of habitat.
